Day 1 on the Test Engineer path.

What a Test Engineer does

Plan and run tests on products and systems to prove they meet requirements, find failures early, and improve reliability.

  • Design test plans that cover requirements, risks, and real-world use cases
  • Build test setups, fixtures, and scripts to run repeatable tests
  • Run functional, stress, and reliability tests and record results clearly
  • Analyze failures to find root causes and confirm fixes with re-tests
  • Work with design and manufacturing teams to improve testability
  • Automate routine tests to speed up feedback and reduce human error
  • Write test reports and share clear pass or fail decisions with evidence

A day in the life

  1. Review new requirements and update the test plan and test cases
  2. Set up equipment, run tests, and log data and observations
  3. Debug a failure with engineers and plan the next experiment
  4. Summarize results in a short report and join a review meeting
