What a Maintenance Engineer does

Keeps machines and facility systems reliable and safe by planning maintenance, fixing failures, and improving how equipment is cared for.

  • Diagnose equipment faults using inspections, tests, and operator feedback
  • Plan preventive maintenance schedules to reduce breakdowns and downtime
  • Coordinate repairs with technicians, contractors, and production teams
  • Write and update maintenance procedures, checklists, and safety steps
  • Analyze failure data to find root causes and prevent repeat issues
  • Manage spare parts needs and help set critical inventory levels
  • Support equipment upgrades, commissioning, and reliability improvements

A day in the life
