What Welica is for
Welica gets young people ready for the career they want, one role at a time, and stays useful once they are in it. Here is what we stand for, who is behind it, and why.
What we hold to
The world I prepared for is not the world that showed up.
I was about 8 when I first sat in front of a computer. I wrote BASIC and LOGO programs, which is a generous way of saying I spent a lot of time trying to get a small cursor to move left, then right, then left again. At every stage after that, the advice from more experienced adults was roughly the same: learn technology and you will be fine. It worked for a lot of us. But it assumed the future would be a shinier version of the present.
I meet students entering college right now, choosing computer science because for years it was the safe bet, and layering AI and ML courses on top because that feels like the responsible move. When I talk to these families, I can see the uncertainty on their faces. They are making significant decisions without the information they need. And it is not only students. People three, five, ten years into a career are asking the same questions in a different voice.
I do not have a crystal ball. I cannot tell anyone which career will be safe in 2035. But I kept asking myself a different question: what would actually help someone navigate this? Not a quiz that spits out a job title. Not a motivational video. Not another content feed that leaves you more anxious than when you started.
The future is uncertain. I have made my peace with that. But I believe people can still become more aware, more prepared, and more able to take the next useful step, even when the path is not clear.
Who's behind Welica
Welica was founded by Aroop Kumar. He has long been interested in learning and behavioural science: how people learn, build habits and make decisions. That interest shaped the product: short daily steps, real practice, and no streaks or badges.
Before Welica, Aroop spent more than fifteen years in analytics and consumer lending, most recently running analytics and credit risk at a US lender. He also has a background in management consulting at a top firm, and studied at IIT Delhi and INSEAD. Welica works with specialists in curriculum, design and marketing, and is self-funded.
The conversations behind it
Three, from many. Every one of them was working hard. None of them had a way to decide.
A Class 12 student had already run social media campaigns for a few agencies and loved the work. She had never considered marketing as a career, because nobody had shown her where it led.
Parents of a bright Class 12 student were certain they did not want her in computer science, and had no way to judge what else made sense, or which roles would still be in demand when she graduated.
A final-year computer science student had done far more than his syllabus asked: an outside ML course, Kaggle, a startup idea on the side. He still could not tell what would count when placements came.
How Welica is made

The career data
Every role is matched to an official occupation record, broken into the tasks people actually do, and rated task by task. Entry-level hiring is checked separately. Every claim links to a source we opened and read. Re-checked monthly.

The lessons
A Welica lesson is not a video. It is a short story, one idea, a check, a prompt to write about, and a quick review weeks later. Research shows that testing yourself and spacing practice out is what makes learning stick.

Where AI is used, and where it is not
We use AI tools to draft paths and lessons. Every draft follows fixed rules and is checked automatically, and the parts that matter most are read and rewritten by a person. In the app, AI only gives optional feedback on your practice answers, and it tells you when it does.
