Day 1 on the Industrial Engineer path.

What a Industrial Engineer does

Improves how work gets done in factories and services by redesigning processes, layouts, and schedules to cut waste, cost, and delays.

  • Analyze process data to find bottlenecks, defects, and wasted time or materials
  • Design better workflows, line layouts, and workstations for safety and efficiency
  • Set time standards and staffing plans using time studies and workload analysis
  • Improve quality using root cause analysis and continuous improvement methods
  • Model capacity, inventory, and lead times to support planning and delivery goals
  • Coordinate changes with operators, maintenance, quality, and management teams
  • Document standard work and train teams on new processes and controls

A day in the life

  1. Walk the floor to observe work, measure cycle times, and talk with operators
  2. Pull data from production and quality systems, then analyze trends and losses
  3. Run a short improvement meeting and agree on actions, owners, and due dates
  4. Test a change on a pilot area, then update standard work and training notes
