Day 1 on the Manufacturing Test Engineer path.

What a Manufacturing Test Engineer does

Builds and improves factory test systems so products meet specs, defects are caught early, and production runs smoothly.

  • Design test plans and pass fail limits for new products and revisions
  • Build and debug test stations using fixtures, sensors, and measurement gear
  • Write and maintain test scripts to automate checks and record results
  • Analyze yield and failure data to find root causes and reduce escapes
  • Work with design and manufacturing teams to improve test coverage and speed
  • Create clear work instructions and train operators and technicians
  • Calibrate equipment and manage test station maintenance and spare parts

A day in the life

  1. Review overnight yield dashboards and investigate top failure modes
  2. Debug a failing unit on the bench and update the test to catch it earlier
  3. Meet with design and process teams to align on new test requirements
  4. Run a pilot build, watch cycle time, and tune limits to reduce false fails
