Day 1 on the AI Quality Inspection Lead path.

What a AI Quality Inspection Lead does

Runs the machine-vision AI system that inspects products on a factory line. Deploys and tunes models that spot defects, handles tricky edge cases, and sets the pass or fail rules with quality teams so good parts pass and bad parts get caught.

  • Deploy and tune vision models that spot defects on the line
  • Set up cameras, lighting, and angles so images stay clear
  • Tune pass or fail thresholds with quality teams to balance risk
  • Handle edge cases and cut false rejects that waste good parts
  • Retrain models when new defects or new products appear
  • Decide when a defect is unclear and a human must check
  • Track accuracy, first-pass yield (FPY), and false reject rate over time

A day in the life

  1. Review overnight inspection logs and flag images the model got wrong
  2. Walk the line to check cameras, lighting, and any new defect types
  3. Label tricky images, retrain a model, and test it offline
  4. Meet with quality teams to agree on thresholds and escalation rules
  5. Deploy the updated model during a planned window and watch results
