Day 1 on the RF Engineer path.

What a RF Engineer does

Designs, builds, and tests radio-frequency hardware so wireless products and networks connect reliably and meet safety and performance limits.

  • Design RF circuits and signal paths for radios, receivers, and transmitters
  • Model and tune antennas, filters, and matching networks to hit range targets
  • Test prototypes with lab instruments and record performance across frequencies
  • Diagnose interference, noise, and signal loss issues in hardware and systems
  • Work with mechanical and PCB teams to fit RF parts into real products
  • Write test plans, reports, and clear requirements for RF performance
  • Support compliance testing for wireless standards and regulatory limits

A day in the life

  1. Review requirements, link budget, and test results to plan the next experiments
  2. Run lab measurements, adjust tuning parts, and compare results to simulations
  3. Meet with cross-functional teams to unblock layout, packaging, and test needs
  4. Document findings, update specs, and propose design changes for the next build

Tools you will use

RF test equipment: spectrum analyzer, network analyzer, osc-Simulation: MATLAB, PythonRF design: ADS, HFSSPCB tools: Altium Designer, KiCadPrototyping: soldering, rework stationDocumentation: Jira, Confluence
