Day 1 on the Electronics Test Engineer path.

What a Electronics Test Engineer does

Create and run tests on electronic boards and devices to find faults, improve reliability, and support manufacturing and product teams.

  • Design test plans and pass fail limits for electronic assemblies
  • Build test setups using instruments, fixtures, and automation scripts
  • Run functional, stress, and environmental tests and record results
  • Diagnose failures using measurements and root cause methods
  • Work with design and manufacturing teams to fix issues and retest
  • Analyze yield and reliability data to spot trends and weak points
  • Write clear test reports and update procedures for repeatable testing

A day in the life

  1. Review test queue, priorities, and any new failure reports from production
  2. Set up boards on benches, run automated tests, and watch for anomalies
  3. Debug a failing unit with scope and meter, then document findings
  4. Meet with engineers to agree on fixes, then rerun tests to confirm
  5. Log results, update test scripts, and prepare a short status report

Tools you will use
