Day 1 on the Mechatronics Engineer path.

What a Mechatronics Engineer does

Designs and tests smart machines by combining mechanics, electronics, and software so products move, sense, and control safely.

  • Design electromechanical systems like actuators, sensors, and mechanisms
  • Build prototypes and wire electronics for motors, sensors, and power
  • Write and tune control software for motion, speed, and position
  • Model and simulate system behavior to predict performance and limits
  • Test hardware and software together and troubleshoot failures
  • Create requirements, safety checks, and test plans for releases
  • Coordinate with manufacturing to make designs reliable and buildable

A day in the life

  1. Review requirements, risks, and test results with the team
  2. Prototype or modify a rig, then run measurements and log data
  3. Tune control settings and verify behavior under different loads
  4. Debug issues across wiring, code, and mechanics with quick experiments

Tools you will use

CAD: SolidWorks, Fusion 360Simulation: MATLAB, SimulinkEmbedded: C, C++Microcontrollers: Arduino, STM32Test gear: oscilloscope, multimeterVersion control: GitAutomation: PLCs, ladder logic
