Day 1 on the Electronics Engineer path.

What a Electronics Engineer does

Designs and tests electronic circuits for products and machines so they work safely, reliably, and at the right cost.

  • Design circuit schematics and choose parts to meet power, size, and cost needs
  • Build and test prototypes using lab equipment to verify performance
  • Debug hardware issues by measuring signals and tracing root causes
  • Create PCB layouts or review layouts for signal integrity and manufacturability
  • Write clear requirements, test plans, and engineering documentation
  • Coordinate with mechanical, firmware, and manufacturing teams to integrate designs
  • Support production by investigating failures and improving test coverage

A day in the life

  1. Review requirements, risks, and test results, then plan the next design steps
  2. Prototype and measure circuits on the bench using scope and power supplies
  3. Meet with cross-functional teammates to resolve integration and schedule issues
  4. Document changes, update schematics, and run design reviews before ordering boards
  5. Analyze field or factory failures and propose fixes for the next build
