What a Hydraulic Technician does

Installs, tests, and repairs hydraulic parts on machines so equipment runs safely, smoothly, and with less downtime.

  • Diagnose hydraulic faults using pressure, flow, and temperature checks
  • Repair or replace pumps, valves, cylinders, hoses, and seals
  • Build and route hydraulic lines and fittings to match drawings
  • Flush systems, change filters, and control contamination in fluids
  • Test equipment after repairs and confirm performance meets specs
  • Read schematics and service manuals to plan safe repair steps
  • Document work, parts used, and maintenance recommendations

A day in the life

  1. Review work orders, safety risks, and machine history before starting

  3. Repair components, refill and bleed lines, then retest under load
  4. Coordinate with operators and supervisors to schedule downtime windows
