What a Physician does

Examine patients, diagnose health problems, and provide treatment and advice to improve health and prevent complications.

  • Diagnose illnesses by reviewing symptoms, history, exams, and test results
  • Create treatment plans using medicines, procedures, and lifestyle guidance
  • Order and interpret lab tests and medical imaging when needed
  • Perform clinical procedures and manage urgent or complex cases
  • Explain options, risks, and next steps so patients can make informed choices
  • Coordinate care with nurses, pharmacists, therapists, and specialists
  • Document visits, prescriptions, and follow-up plans in medical records

A day in the life

  1. Review schedule, urgent messages, and key patient notes before clinic or rounds
  2. See patients, examine them, decide next steps, and update the care plan
  3. Discuss cases with the care team and arrange referrals or hospital admissions
  4. Call patients with results, adjust treatment, and plan follow-ups
  5. Complete documentation and safety checks for orders and prescriptions
