What a Paramedic does

Provides urgent medical care at the scene and during transport to help patients reach the right care safely and fast.

  • Assess patients quickly and decide the safest next steps
  • Provide emergency treatment like CPR, bleeding control, and airway support
  • Use monitors and check vital signs to guide care
  • Administer approved medicines and manage pain when allowed
  • Lift, move, and secure patients for safe transport
  • Communicate with dispatch and hospital staff about patient status
  • Document care provided and follow clinical protocols
  • Clean, restock, and check ambulance equipment after calls

A day in the life

  1. Start shift by checking the ambulance, meds, oxygen, and safety gear
  2. Respond to emergency calls, assess patients, treat, and transport
  3. Coordinate with partners, police, firefighters, and hospital teams
  4. Complete patient reports and restock supplies between calls
  5. Train on skills and review protocols during quieter periods
