Day 1 on the Smart Factory and Digital Operations Lead path.

What a Smart Factory and Digital Operations Lead does

Leads the digital change of a factory, connecting machines, sensors, and software so the plant runs on live data. The goal is fewer breakdowns, smarter scheduling, and operators who trust the new tools.

  • Roll out the manufacturing execution system (MES), the software that runs the floor
  • Connect machines with Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) sensors to stream live data
  • Set up AI scheduling so orders match machine and crew availability
  • Build line dashboards that show output, downtime, and quality in real time
  • Launch predictive maintenance to fix machines before they break down
  • Train operators and supervisors to use new tools in daily work
  • Run pilots on one line, measure results, then scale across the plant
  • Report savings and risks to plant and digital leaders each month

A day in the life

  1. Check overnight dashboards for downtime, scrap, and sensor alerts
  2. Walk the floor to see how operators use the new MES screens
  3. Meet IT and automation teams to fix data gaps or system bugs
  4. Review the AI schedule with planners and adjust rules together
  5. Run a short training on a new predictive maintenance alert
  6. End by updating the rollout plan and logging blockers for leaders
