What a Maintenance Scheduler does

Plans and updates maintenance schedules for equipment teams so work is done on time and downtime is reduced.

  • Coordinate weekly and daily maintenance schedules with technicians and supervisors
  • Prioritize work orders based on safety, downtime risk, and production needs
  • Confirm parts, tools, permits, and access are ready before work starts
  • Assign time windows and resources to minimize disruption to operations
  • Track job progress, delays, and completions; update plans in real time
  • Communicate schedule changes to operations, maintenance, and contractors

  • Review backlog and help improve planning rules and standard job plans

A day in the life

  1. Review new work requests, breakdowns, and overdue tasks; adjust the schedule
  2. Meet with maintenance and operations to agree on priorities and downtime windows
  3. Check parts availability and contractor timing; resolve conflicts and constraints
  4. Update the CMMS, publish the plan, and answer questions from the floor
  5. End the day by confirming completions and preparing the next shift plan
