What a Farm Manager does

Runs day-to-day farm operations by planning people, animals or crops, and equipment to produce safe, high-quality food efficiently.

  • Plan planting, feeding, and harvest schedules based on weather, labor, and market needs
  • Coordinate daily work for farm workers and contractors, including safety briefings
  • Monitor crop or livestock health and act early on pests, disease, and stress
  • Manage irrigation, fertilizer, and soil care to protect yield and long-term land health
  • Schedule equipment use, maintenance, and repairs to reduce downtime
  • Track costs, yields, inventory, and sales records to guide decisions and budgets
  • Follow food safety, animal welfare, and environmental rules and prepare for inspections

  2. Check weather, water, and equipment status, then adjust the plan for the day
  3. Handle deliveries, supplier calls, and quick fixes while work is in progress
