What a Manufacturing Supervisor does

Supervises factory production teams to hit daily output, quality, and safety targets while keeping work running smoothly.

  • Coordinate daily production plans, staffing, and line changeovers
  • Monitor output, scrap, downtime, and quality checks during the shift
  • Coach operators on standard work, safety rules, and good practices
  • Troubleshoot process issues and escalate equipment problems to maintenance
  • Run shift handovers and communicate priorities to the next team
  • Investigate defects and lead quick fixes to prevent repeat problems
  • Track materials, WIP, and finished goods to avoid shortages or overbuild
  • Complete shift reports and support audits for safety and quality

  1. Start with a safety talk, review yesterday results, and set shift goals
  2. Walk the floor, check bottlenecks, and help remove blockers fast
  3. Meet with quality and maintenance to handle defects and breakdowns
  4. Update the schedule as orders or staffing change during the shift
  5. Close with counts, reports, and a clear handover to the next shift
