What a Quality Manager does

Sets and checks quality standards so products and services meet customer needs, safety rules, and cost targets.

  • Design quality standards, checklists, and acceptance criteria for products and processes
  • Plan and run audits to confirm teams follow procedures and meet quality targets
  • Analyze defect data to find root causes and prevent repeat issues
  • Coordinate corrective and preventive actions with production, service, and suppliers
  • Review customer complaints and returns to spot patterns and fix systemic problems
  • Train teams on quality methods, documentation, and safe work practices
  • Report quality performance to leaders and recommend process improvements

A day in the life

  1. Review defect trends, customer issues, and audit findings from the last shift or week
  2. Walk the floor or observe service work to check process steps and collect evidence
  3. Meet with teams to agree on root cause, actions, owners, and due dates
  4. Update quality records, dashboards, and procedures, then follow up on open actions
