What a Hotel Manager does

Oversees daily hotel operations so guests have a smooth stay while teams meet service, safety, and budget goals.

  • Coordinate front desk, housekeeping, maintenance, and food service to run smoothly
  • Set service standards and handle escalations to resolve guest issues quickly
  • Plan staffing schedules, hiring, training, and performance feedback for teams
  • Manage budgets, purchasing, and cost controls to hit revenue and profit targets
  • Monitor cleanliness, safety, and compliance checks across rooms and public areas
  • Review occupancy, rates, and forecasts to adjust plans with sales and revenue teams
  • Work with vendors and contractors for supplies, repairs, and service agreements

A day in the life

  1. Review occupancy, arrivals, VIP notes, and staffing gaps at the start of shift
  2. Walk the property to check cleanliness, safety, and guest flow in key areas
  3. Meet with department heads to solve issues and set priorities for the day
  4. Handle guest complaints, staff questions, and urgent maintenance decisions
  5. Close out with reports on revenue, incidents, and next-day action items
