What a Wind Turbine Technician does

Inspect, repair, and test wind turbines so energy operators can keep turbines safe, reliable, and producing power.

  • Inspect turbines, blades, and towers for wear, damage, and safety issues
  • Diagnose electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic faults using test equipment
  • Repair or replace parts like sensors, brakes, gearboxes, and wiring
  • Perform scheduled maintenance: lubrication, torque checks, filters, and alignment
  • Use lockout tagout and fall protection to work safely at height
  • Document work, parts used, and test results in maintenance systems
  • Coordinate with control rooms to start, stop, and test turbines

  1. Review weather, work orders, and safety plan before traveling to the site
  2. Climb the tower, inspect systems, run tests, and complete repairs
  3. Communicate status with teammates and the operations control room
  4. Log findings, close work orders, and prep tools and parts for next jobs
