What a Solar Panel Installer does

Installs and tests solar panel systems on buildings so homes and businesses can safely generate electricity from sunlight.

  • Inspect roofs and sites to confirm structure, access, and safe work setup
  • Measure and mark layouts for panel placement, rails, and cable routes
  • Install mounting hardware, rails, panels, and weatherproof roof penetrations
  • Run and secure wiring, conduit, and grounding to meet electrical safety rules
  • Connect inverters and other equipment, then verify system startup and output
  • Use meters to test voltage, continuity, and insulation before handover
  • Document work, photos, and test results for permits and customer records
  • Explain basic system operation and maintenance steps to customers

A day in the life

  1. Review job plan, weather, and safety checks before climbing or lifting
  2. Work in a crew to mount rails and panels, then route wiring neatly
