Day 1 on the Renewable Energy Engineer path.

What a Renewable Energy Engineer does

Designs and improves wind, solar, and energy storage systems so organizations can produce clean power safely and reliably.

  • Design solar, wind, and storage system layouts and electrical connections
  • Model energy output using weather, site, and equipment data
  • Select components like inverters, transformers, batteries, and controls
  • Review drawings and calculations to meet codes and safety standards
  • Coordinate with civil, electrical, and construction teams during build
  • Test and commission systems, then troubleshoot performance issues
  • Monitor operating data and recommend upgrades to boost efficiency
  • Write technical reports, permits support, and maintenance guidance

A day in the life

  1. Review site data and energy models, then update design assumptions
  2. Meet with project teams to resolve design, cost, and schedule tradeoffs
  3. Check drawings and calculations, then answer questions from installers
  4. Visit a site to inspect equipment, run tests, and log issues to fix
