Day 1 on the Energy Engineer path.

What a Energy Engineer does

Find and deliver energy savings for buildings and industrial sites by auditing systems and planning upgrades that cut costs and emissions.

  • Analyze utility bills and meter data to find waste and savings opportunities
  • Inspect buildings and equipment to measure how energy is used
  • Model energy use and estimate savings from upgrades and controls
  • Design or specify improvements for HVAC, lighting, motors, and insulation
  • Write audit reports with costs, payback, and implementation steps
  • Coordinate with contractors and facility teams during installation and testing
  • Verify results after changes using measurements and performance checks

A day in the life

  1. Review energy data, site notes, and open actions from past audits
  2. Walk a site to check equipment, controls, and operating schedules
  3. Build a savings model and compare upgrade options in a spreadsheet
  4. Meet with facility staff to agree on priorities, budgets, and timelines
  5. Write a clear report and track projects through commissioning and M and V
