What a Construction Engineer does

Plans and supports construction work on site by checking designs, coordinating teams, and solving issues so projects are built safely, on time, and to spec.

  • Review drawings and specs to plan how the work will be built on site
  • Coordinate daily tasks with contractors, supervisors, and inspectors
  • Track progress, quantities, and costs against the project plan
  • Check quality of materials and workmanship and document results
  • Solve site problems like clashes, access limits, and unexpected ground issues
  • Support safety planning with risk checks, permits, and method statements
  • Prepare reports, photos, and as-built updates for the project team
