What a Product Designer does

Designs digital product experiences that are easy to use and look good, turning user needs and business goals into clear screens and flows.

  • Design user flows, wireframes, and high-fidelity screens for new features
  • Research user needs through interviews, surveys, and usability tests
  • Create prototypes to explore ideas and validate solutions quickly
  • Define interaction patterns and contribute to design systems
  • Collaborate with product and engineering to shape scope and tradeoffs
  • Write clear UI text and states for errors, empty screens, and onboarding
  • Review built work and give feedback to improve quality and consistency

A day in the life

  1. Review metrics, feedback, and support tickets to spot user pain points
  2. Sketch and prototype a solution, then test it with a few users
  3. Meet with product and engineering to align on goals, scope, and timing
  4. Update designs, specs, and handoff notes based on review feedback
  5. Check the shipped feature and log fixes or improvements for the next sprint
