Day 1 on the Electrical Drafter path.

What a Electrical Drafter does

Creates clear electrical drawings and wiring diagrams for engineers and builders so panels, machines, and buildings can be wired safely and documented correctly.

  • Draft wiring diagrams and schematics from engineer notes and marked-up sketches
  • Create panel layout drawings showing component placement, labels, and wire routing
  • Add wire numbers, terminal schedules, and cable lists for shop and field teams
  • Update drawings after design changes and keep revision history accurate
  • Check drawings against standards and basic electrical rules to reduce errors
  • Coordinate with engineers, builders, and purchasing to confirm parts and constraints
  • Prepare drawing sets and PDFs for manufacturing, installation, and service manuals

A day in the life

  1. Review new requests, specs, and redlines from engineers or project managers
  2. Draft or update schematics and panel layouts in CAD, then run quick self-checks
  3. Send drawings for review, log comments, and apply revisions with clear notes
  4. Answer questions from the shop or site about wire IDs, terminals, and labels
