What a Sales Representative does

Sells products or services to new and existing customers by finding leads, explaining value, and closing deals to hit revenue goals.

  • Prospect for new customers using calls, email, social, and events
  • Qualify leads by learning needs, budget, and decision process
  • Present solutions and handle questions and objections
  • Create quotes and proposals and negotiate terms within guidelines
  • Manage a sales pipeline and forecast likely deals
  • Coordinate with marketing, product, and support to solve customer issues
  • Close deals, process orders, and ensure a smooth handoff
  • Track activity and results in a CRM and report progress to managers

A day in the life

  1. Review pipeline, priorities, and targets, then plan outreach for the day
  2. Call and email prospects, book meetings, and run product demos
  3. Update CRM notes, next steps, and deal stages after each interaction
  4. Work with teammates on pricing, approvals, and customer questions
  5. End the week by reviewing results and adjusting the plan for next week
