What a Account Executive does

Sells products or services to new customers by running calls, building proposals, and closing contracts that meet customer needs and revenue goals.

  • Prospect and qualify new leads using research, referrals, and outreach
  • Run discovery calls to understand customer goals, budget, and decision process
  • Present demos or pitches that match customer needs and show clear value
  • Build proposals, pricing, and business cases with internal partners
  • Negotiate terms and handle objections to reach a signed agreement
  • Manage the sales pipeline in a CRM and forecast likely revenue
  • Coordinate handoff to onboarding or customer success after the deal closes

A day in the life

  1. Review pipeline, prioritize deals, and plan outreach for the day
  2. Hold discovery calls, demos, and follow-ups with multiple prospects
  3. Write proposals, update CRM notes, and align with sales engineer or manager
  4. Negotiate next steps by email and calls, then schedule the next meeting
