What a Project Manager does

Plan and coordinate people, time, and budgets so teams deliver agreed work on schedule and within scope.

  • Define project goals, scope, success measures, and key deliverables
  • Build project plans with tasks, owners, timelines, and dependencies
  • Coordinate team work across functions to remove blockers and keep progress moving
  • Track budget, risks, issues, and changes; escalate when needed
  • Run meetings, write clear updates, and align stakeholders on next steps
  • Manage vendors or partners when work is outsourced or shared
  • Close projects with handover, documentation, and lessons learned

A day in the life

  1. Review plan, risks, and progress dashboards; update priorities for the day
  2. Run a short team check-in and follow up on blockers with owners
  3. Meet stakeholders to confirm requirements, tradeoffs, and timeline changes
