What a Product Analyst does

A Product Analyst studies product and user data to help product teams choose improvements that increase customer value and business results.

  • Analyze user behavior and funnels to find drop-offs and growth opportunities
  • Build dashboards and reports that track product health and key metrics
  • Design and evaluate A/B tests to measure impact of product changes
  • Define metrics and event tracking with product and engineering teams
  • Investigate metric changes and explain likely causes with evidence
  • Turn findings into clear recommendations and next-step experiments
  • Monitor releases and feature adoption to spot issues early

A day in the life

  1. Check dashboards for unusual metric changes and investigate root causes
  2. Meet with product and design to align on questions and success metrics
  3. Write SQL to pull data, then summarize insights in a short update
  4. Review experiment results and recommend whether to ship or iterate
  5. Document tracking needs and follow up with engineers on data quality
