What a Product Manager does

Plans what product to build next, based on user needs and business goals, and guides teams to deliver useful features.

  • Analyze user problems using research, support tickets, and product data
  • Define product goals, success metrics, and a clear roadmap
  • Write requirements and user stories that teams can build from
  • Coordinate design, engineering, and marketing to ship releases
  • Prioritize work by impact, effort, risk, and deadlines
  • Run feedback loops with users to test and improve solutions
  • Communicate progress, tradeoffs, and decisions to stakeholders

A day in the life

  1. Review metrics and user feedback, then update priorities for the week
  2. Meet with design and engineering to clarify scope and unblock work
  3. Write or refine user stories, acceptance criteria, and release notes
  4. Sync with stakeholders on timelines, risks, and what changed
  5. End day by checking progress and planning next experiments
