Day 1 on the Risk Analyst path.

What a Risk Analyst does

Analyzes data to spot financial and operational risks for an organization and recommends actions to reduce losses and surprises.

  • Analyze portfolios, processes, or vendors to identify key risks and weak controls
  • Build risk models and scenarios to estimate likelihood, impact, and exposure
  • Monitor risk indicators and investigate unusual trends or limit breaches
  • Write clear risk reports and present findings to managers and partners
  • Recommend mitigations like policy changes, controls, hedges, or monitoring
  • Support audits and regulatory requests with evidence, logs, and documentation
  • Coordinate with teams to test controls and track remediation progress

A day in the life

  1. Review dashboards and alerts, then prioritize the biggest risk changes to investigate
  2. Meet with finance and operations teams to understand new products or process changes
  3. Update models and assumptions, then run scenarios and stress tests
  4. Draft a short risk note and review it with stakeholders before sending it out
  5. Track open issues and follow up on mitigation actions and deadlines
