What a Financial Planner does

Helps individuals and families set money goals and build a plan for budgeting, saving, investing, and protection over time.

  • Interview clients to understand goals, income, debts, and risk comfort
  • Build financial plans covering budget, emergency fund, and long term goals
  • Recommend savings and investment options that match the clients timeline
  • Review insurance and protection needs and explain tradeoffs and costs
  • Plan for major events like education costs, home buying, and retirement

  • Prepare clear reports and keep records to meet compliance requirements

A day in the life

  1. Start with emails, market news, and a quick review of client action lists
  2. Meet clients by video or in person to update goals and explain next steps
  3. Build or update plans in spreadsheets and planning software between calls
  4. Coordinate paperwork with product providers and schedule follow ups
  5. End by documenting meetings and preparing for tomorrow appointments
