What a Special Education Teacher does

Teaches and supports students with disabilities by adapting lessons and routines so they can learn, communicate, and grow at school.

  • Assess student strengths and needs using observations, work samples, and simple checks
  • Create and update individual learning plans with goals, supports, and progress measures
  • Teach small groups or 1:1 using adapted lessons, visuals, and hands-on practice
  • Manage classroom routines and behavior supports to keep learning safe and focused
  • Track progress and write clear notes for reports, meetings, and required paperwork
