What a Front-End Developer does

Builds and improves the screens and interactions of websites and apps so users can navigate, read, and act smoothly.

  • Build responsive web pages from designs using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript
  • Implement UI components and app flows using a front-end framework
  • Connect screens to APIs and handle loading, errors, and empty states
  • Fix bugs and improve performance, accessibility, and cross-browser behavior
  • Write and review code to keep quality high and changes safe
  • Collaborate with design, product, and back-end to clarify requirements
  • Set up and maintain front-end build, testing, and release workflows

A day in the life

  1. Review tasks, clarify requirements, and estimate work with the team
  2. Code features, run the app locally, and test in multiple browsers
  3. Join design and product check-ins to review UI details and edge cases
  4. Open a pull request, respond to feedback, and merge changes safely
  5. Monitor issues from users and ship small fixes quickly when needed
