Day 1 on the Statistician path.

What a Statistician does

Designs studies and analyzes data for teams like health, government, and business to make reliable decisions and predictions.

  • Design surveys and experiments to answer real-world questions
  • Choose sampling methods and calculate needed sample sizes
  • Clean and validate data to reduce errors and bias
  • Analyze data using statistical models and hypothesis tests
  • Build forecasts and quantify uncertainty with confidence intervals
  • Create clear charts and reports that explain results and limits
  • Review methods to ensure results are reproducible and ethical

A day in the life

  1. Meet with stakeholders to clarify the question and success criteria
  2. Write analysis plan, pull data, and run checks for quality issues
  3. Model results in R or Python and test assumptions
  4. Review findings with teammates and refine based on feedback
  5. Document methods and share a short report or presentation
