Day 1 on the Data Quality Analyst path.

What a Data Quality Analyst does

Checks and improves data in business systems so teams can trust reports, dashboards, and analytics decisions.

  • Analyze datasets to find missing values, duplicates, and inconsistent formats
  • Design data quality rules and automated checks for key tables and fields
  • Investigate root causes of bad data across sources, pipelines, and user inputs
  • Coordinate fixes with data engineers, analysts, and business teams
  • Document data definitions, validation rules, and known data limitations
  • Monitor quality metrics and alert teams when data falls below thresholds
  • Test changes to data pipelines to confirm quality checks still pass

A day in the life

  1. Review overnight quality alerts and prioritize issues by business impact
  2. Run SQL checks, profile new data, and compare results to expected patterns
  3. Meet with stakeholders to clarify definitions and agree on quality rules
  4. Create tickets, track fixes, and re-test data after changes are deployed
