What a Cybersecurity Analyst does

Protects an organizations systems and data by spotting attacks early, fixing weaknesses, and guiding safe response.

  • Monitor alerts and logs to detect suspicious activity
  • Investigate incidents to find cause, impact, and next steps
  • Harden systems by improving access controls and security settings
  • Run vulnerability scans and track fixes with IT teams
  • Write clear incident reports and brief non-technical stakeholders
  • Test security controls with basic simulations and checklists
  • Maintain security documentation, playbooks, and evidence for audits

A day in the life

  1. Review overnight alerts, triage tickets, and confirm what is real
  2. Dig into logs, endpoints, and network data to investigate a case
  3. Meet with IT to plan patches, access changes, and risk tradeoffs
  4. Update dashboards, write notes, and close out incidents with lessons learned
