What a Social Worker does

Helps people and families handle tough situations by assessing needs, planning support, and connecting them to services.

  • Assess client needs through interviews, home visits, and record review
  • Create care plans with clear goals, steps, and follow-up timelines
  • Connect clients to housing, food, health, legal, and financial support services
  • Advocate for client rights and safety with schools, clinics, and agencies
  • Provide crisis support and safety planning for high-risk situations
  • Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams and community partners
  • Document cases accurately and meet legal and policy requirements

A day in the life

  1. Review caseload, urgent messages, and safety risks for the day
  2. Meet clients in office, community sites, or homes to assess needs

  4. Write case notes, update plans, and prepare required reports
